Assurance

Assurance is to be sure of something that is certain and true.  The assurance of salvation is critical for every believer. First John five verse thirteen reminds us that the Bible was written in order that we KNOW we have eternal life.  Yet, for some believers, that truth is just not sealed in their hearts.  If you have friends who have placed their trust in Christ but they remain uncertain about the promise of eternal life, a wonderful Bible verse to share with them is John six verse forty-seven. 

In fact, if you have your Bible handy, turn to the verse and say to them, “This is what Jesus says.”  Then ask them to read it out loud. “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” That verse is very clear that he or she who trusts in Christ HAS eternal life, which in the Bible always means Heaven.  I hope this helps you as you share life with your friends today.

Revival

When you think of revival, do you think of thousands of people professing Christ in a stadium?

Well, that’s what first comes to mind.  But, there is another revival.  And it happens with one person sharing the Gospel into the life of another person.  One-on-one.  No loud speakers.  It doesn’t take months or years to plan.  It can happen in the blink of an eye.  A neighbor visits you.  A grocery store clerk says hello.  Someone knocks on your door selling chocolate for a school fund drive.  It can happen when you least expect it.  And when it does, don’t you want to be prepared?  One mom of three children wrote to us and shared about the many issues and demands she deals with on a daily basis.  But she said, through it all, knowing how to share her faith gives her a personal mission and ready-ness.

Bible Study

I remember the first semester of Evangelism Explosion. We began to share our faith and lo and behold, we started to see people come to Christ. Well what do you do then?

One of the first keys to growth in a new believer’s life is Bible study. So, consider starting a Bible study support group. The support group would offer valuable sharing, caring, counsel and prayer and should focus on the basics of the faith. Meet once each week for six weeks. Keep it to an hour-and-a-half. It may be more comfortable to meet in the new believer’s home, which provides a familiar setting for them.

Such a group will help the new believer adjust and identify with your church. And it’s a wonderful way to include others in your church or life group to help disciple a new believer which is something they may never have done before.

Research and Return

Have you ever thought that evangelism is for people who are ordained—you know, the theological giants? Well it’s just not true. It’s not only for them. You don’t have to have all the answers to step out and share your faith.

In fact, there very well may be a time when you won’t have an answer. But don’t let that keep you from trying. There is a very simple solution: You simply tell them that they ask a great question and that you’ll look into it and return with an answer.

This gives you the opportunity to research the answer to their question as well as helps you build that relationship so you can go deeper with the Gospel. And it demonstrates a genuine care for them to want to get together with them again. So, go for it, be intentional and share life with your friends today. And we’re here to help you

A Trialogue

When we share our faith with another person, we are engaging in a trialogue – a three way conversation. Those three are you, the person with whom you are sharing and the Holy Spirit. Make no mistake – the Holy Spirit is the most important on that list. 

So, there is verbal conversation taking place as you do your best to share the Gospel with your friend. Along with that, there is some non-verbal communication taking place.  This is why prayer is so valuable to witnessing.  We depend upon the Holy Spirit to help us – to witness – to communicate effectively. 

And we depend upon the Holy Spirit to bring understanding to the person that’s hearing the Gospel. The famous Charles Spurgeon summed this up very well: “We speak the Gospel to the person’s ear, and the Holy Spirit transports the Gospel from the ear to the heart."
