Pattern

Home builders follow a pattern. It’s called a blueprint. Chefs follow a pattern. It’s called a recipe. Over-the-road truckers follow a pattern. It’s called a map. 

Patterns provide design and order and structure. Even the apostle Paul used a pattern in his spiritual teaching.  “Follow the pattern of the sound teaching you have heard from me” is the instruction that he gave to his student, Timothy. 

When it comes to explaining the Gospel to another person, a pattern is very important. The Gospel is not just my testimony or talk about my church. The Gospel is a Biblical explanation as to why Jesus, and what He did on the cross, is so very important to that person. ShareLifeAfrica (SLA) has an effective presentation of the Gospel that we teach people so they can be effective in sharing their faith.  To use Paul’s words, it is a pattern of sound teaching.

Witnessing

Have you ever met one of those “impossible people.” It was the first time that I had the opportunity to go out to witness to someone for Jesus Christ.  And I don’t know why, but I was convinced that I would never see anyone come to Christ in my presence. 

I thought that’s the kind of thing pastors do or someone else who’s certainly more prepared than me. And this was heightened by the fact that when we knocked on the door, I think every other syllable that we heard was a curse word.  If ever there was a person you would have said, ‘there’s no way this person is coming to Christ’ this would’ve been the guy.  

But I’ll never forget that night, sharing Jesus with this man and seeing him kneel and accept Christ as Lord and Savior.  Since seeing this happened in his life, I mean to tell you there’s no greater joy.  If you’d like to be part of seeing people come to Christ, even seemingly “impossible” people, then we want to help you do that.

God's great love

When Jesus shared the parable of the Prodigal Son, He told us of a strained relationship between a kind Father and his wayward son. Ultimately, the Father welcomed his son back with open arms! Romans five verse ten (5:10) says “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!” You see, that's the Father’s great love. He loved us so much, that He sent His one and only Son from Heaven to die on a cross in our place. We were reconciled through Jesus.

So, what can we do to love others as God has loved us? Well, where were you in life when you first came to Christ? Do you know anyone else in that same place who needs to hear about His great love? Ask God to give you opportunities to share the Gospel of reconciliation and love!

The Love Chapter

The Bible tells us that “Love is patient and kind; that “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails...”

You know, the truth is that just that first attribute of love – patience – is so hard to live out! Kindness and selflessness doesn’t come easily, either. The Biblical definition of love is very hard to live out. But don’t worry, God didn’t give His Word to perfect people who love perfectly. God gave us the Bible to show us His love for us. For "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." That’s selflessness. That’s enduring.

So, how do we follow Christ and love like He does? Well, we can start by sharing with others the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His great love for them.

A noisy cymbal

You know that noise your smoke detector makes when it needs new batteries? It causes some annoyance and anxiety, doesn’t it? No one wants to be around that screeching! You know, sometimes we can be just like that loud noise that no one wants to hear. The Apostle Paul says we can do very good things, but if our words are not spoken out of love, it’s just a bunch of noise.

So what is love? Now, I’m not talking about romantic love. That’s a fleeting emotion that won’t be consistent throughout time – it’s certainly not unfailing. I am talking about the unwavering, unfailing love of God. First John says we love because He first loved us. Without the love of Jesus, we’ll never know what true love is.

Can you imagine never knowing the love of God? Friends, this is why it's so important that we make sure that we’re spreading the love of Jesus to everyone we can.
