Children and the Gospel

You’re listening to ShareLifeAfrica! Have you ever thought about how many people one child interacts with throughout the course of his or her life?

Children have their whole lives ahead of them. And everywhere they go, they meet people. So, just think, when a child is equipped to share their faith, the Gospel goes everywhere they go. And, have you noticed that children don’t seem to have the same hang-ups talking about Jesus that we adults often have?

They don’t worry about what someone will think. They just want their friend or their mom or dad or grandparent to know Jesus –and so they tell them about Him. And in case you’re wondering if it’s really possible for children to share the Gospel, I can tell you from experience with Hope For Kids, our children's evangelism discipleship program, that children can share the Gospel and, dare I say, sometimes even better than some adults.

Children Make Great Missionaries

You’re listening to ShareLifeAfrica! Did you know that children make great missionaries? And I don’t mean when they’re older. I mean when they’re young.

Have you ever noticed how children overflow with excitement as they eagerly share the Good News of Jesus with their family and friends? I hear testimonies from all over the world of adults who come to Christ because of children who’ve learned how to share their faith.

In South Africa, eleven-year-old Ophelia learned howto share her faith and so she’d share with her Mom and Grandmother what she was learning. It wasn’t long before they both received the free-gift of eternal life. And today, all three are active members in the church. Then there’s twelve-year-old Elok. She lives in a Muslim country, but was trained in Hope for Kids and is now sharing the Gospel because, she says, everyone needs the Gospel! And she’s right. The Gospel is for all ages.

A Community Impact

You’re listening to ShareLifeAfrica! Things happen when a community comes together. We see this time and time again in our neighborhoods, cities, and country. And this very same principle applies to telling others about Jesus. We are stronger together.

In Namibia, Africa, this is happening all across the country. But I'd love to share with you an example of the local churches. They came together for an evangelism training event for children's workers, where they taught Hope For Kids, a program that disciples children to share their faith. And then, they took it back to their churches and started implementing it. And children in the community's lives started to change. And through that, the community started to change.

This was all because Christians like you and me decided to come together and to make an impact. And these believers were part of over 2 million children coming to know Jesus in the past year all over the world. And we praise God for that! Teach a Man to Fish

You’re listening to ShareLifeAfrica! Do you remember that old saying...catch a man a fish, and he will eat for a day.But teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime. Some incredible things happen when we disciple others on how to grow. And this same principle applies to teaching others how to share their faith.

This is important because firstly, they can confidently share the Gospel with their friends and family. But secondly—and as important as the first benefit, they can mentor others in how to share their faith too. And this multiplies the amount of people hearing the Good News of the Gospel. Let me give you an example. In Nigeria last year, one hundred and forty-six thousand children were discipled in how to share their faith, and one million four hundred and sixty-four thousand other children gave their hearts to Jesus. Just think about what heaven is going to look like one day.

Becoming All Things

You’re listening to ShareLifeAfrica! The Apostle Paul says in his first letter to the Corinthians, "I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." This doesn't mean that we compromise the truth of the Bible, but it does mean that we should think about the people that we’re trying to reach.

We can find ways to engage with them in order to have a deep, spiritual conversation with them. In Africa, we have trainers that wear traditional outfits into the surrounding villages, that they might be accepted by those cultures in order to share the Gospel. Many have come to know Jesus because of the faithfulness of these believers as they go and share while respecting the way they dress. May we take encouragement from this in reaching those around us. Let’s ask ourselves...what are their interests? What do they wear? Where do they spend a lot of their time?
