Let the Children Come

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

This famous passage from Matthew nineteen shows us Jesus' heart—God loves the little children of the world. And He wants to have a personal relationship with them! Something I prayed over my own children is that they would know the Lord at the earliest possible age. And, you know,we have an opportunity in our communities and our families to share the hope found in Christ with our children. In Africa, we’ve been doing this through a program called Hope for Kids. Children are learning the key points of the Gospel,and they’re giving their hearts to Jesus. They also are learning how they can clearly share it with their friends as well!

A Dangerous Christian

There are exciting things happening in Africa. Just this past year through evangelism training events, we saw over twenty million people make professions of faith in Jesus.

And that happened through over one million believers learning how to share their faith—both adults and children. These Christians were in churches, schools, and even prisons; and they began to share the Gospel and reach their communities for Jesus. You want to make a Christian dangerous to the enemy? Well, teach them how to share the Good News! The Bible says that the gates of Hell will not prevail against Christ's church.

Pile Up The Stones

Psalm thirty-six five(36:5)tells us, “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.” It’s so true—God is faithful. And I love telling other people about how faithful He has been to me. It reminds me of the passage in Joshua 4, where the Israelites cross over the Jordan River.

When God parted the waters, Joshua commanded one man from each of the twelve tribes to pick up a stone from the bottom of the river. On the other side, they piled those stones up as a monument to God’s faithfulness in preparing a way for them through the Jordan. As forgetful people, we need to do the same. We need to inscribe on our hearts the acts of faithfulness God has done in our lives and boldly share them with others.

Make the Contrast

What have you seen God do in your life? The truth is, we all have hundreds of what we like to call “God stories.” These are times you’ve experienced God moving in your life, like the moment you put your saving faith in Jesus or a change He’s brought about, an answered prayer, a restored relationship.

When sharing one of your “God stories” with another person, make the contrast for them. Start with what life was like before the change or before God stepped in. Then, share what God did. End your testimony with something about the confidence you have concerning Heaven and eternal life. An example would be something like, “The greatest thing about all of this is that I know for sure that if I died today, I’m going to Heaven.”

Be Genuine

In a culture that combats finding what is true and what is a lie, people now more than ever are looking for genuine, authentic relationships. They want to hear the truth. And when it comes to sharing our testimonies, it’s important to remember to be genuine and vulnerable while telling others our story, of how God saved us through Jesus Christ. God may have you sharing with a Divine Appointment—a person He has drawn to you to hear your story for a purpose. It could be that the same struggles or hurt you have faced they are facing now. It could be the very things God has redeemed in your life they are dealing with in their own life.
